Worktop and integrated sink in Glacier White by
Du Pont Corian.
Worksurface in Gedatsu from the Zen series by Silestone.
Solid surface and composite worktops are durable, resilient and produced in a mouth-watering palette of colours. These high-performance surfaces allow you to create long seamless runs of countertop, integrate sink bowls and can be used in harmony with steel and woods.
Quartz composite surfaces
Made from over 90% quartz crystals blended with resin and colour, composites offer the feel of natural stone but are more resilient resisting staining, chipping and cracking. Once only available in natural speckled tones, many manufacturers are now introducing bold solid colours as demand increases.
The Life series from Silestone by Cosetino offers a range of bright, effervescent shades, while its Zen series is a sophisticated palette of moody tones suitable for modern interiors. All Silestone surfaces feature Microban, known for its antibacterial properties.
With a collection of over 70 colours, Caesarstone, is available in a choice of three surface finishes and three thicknesses. A choice of edge detailing makes it suitable for use in traditional and modern kitchens. Other manufacturers include Staron Quartz and DuPont Zodiaq.
Solid surfaces
Due their composition a blend of minerals and acrylic solid surface materials can be thermoformed, routed and carved. Ultimately, they provide the greatest flexibility in terms of design making them a popular choice with architects and designers. They are ideal for creating work surfaces with seamlessly integrated sinks and curved edges.
One of the best-known solid surfaces is Du Pont Corian. Its extensive range features 13 new colours for 2008, including Silver Birch a blend of white, silver and grey, and Pine a mix of mineral and green tones. LG Hi-Macs offers a full spectrum of textured and solid colours from cool greys and granites to pastels and brights.
